Our road cycling proposition is an itinerary which leaves from Chiavenna (333m) up to the Passo Spluga (2115m). A stroll through the charming little streets in the centre of Chiavenna to admire historic buildings, museums and shops is highly recommended prior to dashing off again on your two-wheeler. But now the Passo Spluga beckons. Leaving the heart of the little town the climb begins quite gradually to the habitation of Bette. You continue uphill pedalling alongside the Liro Torrent through first San Giacomo Filippo, Gallivaggio with its Sanctuary dedicated to the apparition of Madonna on the 10th October 1492, then Lirone and Cimaganda. Once you reach the plain at Campodolcino, you’ll appreciate a flat stretch prior to tackling the ten historic hairpins taking you up to Pianazzo. Along the way you’ll be able to enjoy the waterfall with its 180 metre drop. A little further on you’ll encounter the junction to the right which leads to the celebrated tourist resort of Madesimo, whilst to the left you take on the challenge of the hairpin bends and tunnels of Andossi where you can appreciate some breathtaking panorama over the whole of upper Valle Spluga. The dam and reservoir of Montespluga follow in due course and then the village itself before the ultimate stretch with its demanding hairpins up to the Pass.
